BSc in Creative Computing

Duration: 3 years

Admission Requirement:
A Levels or equivalent or
Higher Secondary Certificate with good grades

Features of the BSc:

  1. You will learn how to develop systems that can grow to meet changing needs in modern business environments and other organisations
  2. Provides a progression route to a variety of higher degrees in the computing and information systems sector
  3. You may be eligible for exemptions if you have previously studied suitable material
  4. Flexible study period: you have between 3-8 years to complete the BSc
  5. You will pay just over £3,500 in University fees at current fee levels
  6. It is examined according to the same standards as College-based students studying at Goldsmiths
  7. If you successfully complete Level 1 you may apply to transfer in to the second year at Goldsmiths College, and may apply to transfer to the third year at Goldsmiths after successful completion of Level 2.

This qualification is for you if:

  1. You want to obtain a degree of international standing
  2. You would like to become a creative professional in the computing, media and arts industries
  3. You want to gain the skills needed to research and critically evaluate technologies and interactive media
  4. You would like to learn how to use and design software applications, using media framework and development tools
  5. You wish to investigate the process of new media development using scripting languages, and learn how to develop multimedia for CDs, DVDs and the Internet.

BSc structure
The degree consists of 11 units plus the compulsory project.

Level 1
Four compulsory full units:

109 Introduction to Java and object-oriented programming
110 Introduction to computing and the Internet
112 Creative computing 1: image, sound, motion

Level 2
Four compulsory full units:
209 Database systems
212 Programming: advanced topics and techniques
226 Software engineering, algorithm design and analysis
227 Creative computing 2: interactive multimedia

Level 3
Three compulsory half units:
315 Human computer interaction
342 Advanced creative computing 1
343 Advanced creative computing 2

Plus three half units chosen from the following:
310 Artificial intelligence
311 Neural networks
314 Software engineering management
316 Mathematical techniques of operational research
317 Accounting information systems
318 Information systems management
319 Decision support and executive information systems
323 Electronic commerce
325 Data compression
326 Computer security

Plus a compulsory project:
320 Project (full unit)
